Here are a few afterthoughts after the last week-end of races at the NorAm Cup and canadian selections for the World Jr and U23 Championships in Duntroon, Ontario. Everything is thrown in without any specific order!

Ci-dessous quelques réflexions additionnelles à la suite de la Coupe NorAm, la fin de semaine dernière à Duntroon, qui s’ajoutent à celles publiées précédemment.

The conditions were difficult for the athletes, cold and extremely windy, until the last day of races, Sunday, when the wind finally died down and the temperature rose.

Number one bib… like in number one sprinter in Canada. Perianne Jones showed World Cup form as she dominated the Sr Women’s sprint on Saturday.

Ricardo Izquierdo-Bernier vient de gagner le 10 km style libre, dimanche, et un billet pour retourner aux mondiaux juniors, où il a impressionné l’an passé en terminant 14e du 10 km classique. Il est dans une forme splendide et sera à surveiller.

Zachary Cristofanilli a fini 2e de cette course et 3e du 20 km classique (départ de masse), jeudi. Une très bonne fin de semaine qui s’est terminée sur une note réjouissante lorsqu’on lui a annoncé que lui aussi irait au Kazakhstan.

Draga Culjak and the para-nordic skiers also had a go at it.

Anne-Marie Comeau, elle aussi, a connu une bonne fin de semaine, en commençant par sa brillante victoire dans le skiathlon, jeudi, qui lui ouvrait les portes des mondiaux juniors. Rappelons que ce phénomène n’a que 18 ans…

Graeme Killick (AWCA) started the week-end big by taking the Sr Men’s 30 km Mass Start Skiathlon, 47 s ahead of  Scott Hill (Team Hardwood).

Alexis Dumas du CNEPH a offert une performance époustouflante dans le skiathlon junior en devançant d’une seconde Ricardo Izquierdo-Bernier. L’expérience des mondiaux juniors lui sera grandement profitable.

Jesse Cockney (NST) was unstoppable in the Sr Men’s Sprint. He rocketed himself to victory in front of Patrick Stewart-Jones.

Maya Macisaac-Jones is a junior to watch for. The sprinter took the Jr Women’s Sprint but just as importantly, showed that her hard work in improving her distance skills payed off by finishing 3rd in both the 10 km Skiathlon and the 5 km Free. An all-round skier is that much more threatening on the international scene…

Raphaël Couturier, qui était déjà sélectionné pour les mondiaux U23, a tout de même laissé sa marque en effectuant une dernière boucle infernale pour ravir la 3e place au 15 km senior. Il a de la puissance, tout le monde sait ça, mais il a aussi montré une super forme en revenant de la sorte sur Graeme Killick et Andy Shields.

 

Kevin Sandau topped the Open Men 15 km Free with a commanding 24 s lead over Michael Somppi.

Cendrine Browne a «volé le show» au cours de cette fin de semaine. Elle a dominé sa catégorie U23 dans les trois épreuves au programme. Nous en reparlerons bientôt…
