While a whole lotta people are all about Canada’s men olympic hockey team selection, x-c skiers in Canmore are getting a ready for THEIR most important moment of the year. We talked Monday about the CNEPH skiers, but starting Wednesday, Skipresse will also be paying attention to the rest of the pack.
The young CNEPH skiers are first and foremost focussed on the U23-jrs trials for the World Championships. The older skiers will be trying to land one of the four openings into the Olympic team for Sochi.
The competition is fierce this year. This will be one of the toughest field ever to compete for only two spots in the men’s team and two in the women’s.
The likes of Phil Widmer, Patrick Stewart-Jones, Jesse Cockney, Heidi Widmer, Alysson Marshall, Amanda Ammar, Olivia Bouffard-Nesbitt, Andrea Dupont and others in sprint. Brian McKeever, Kevin Sandau, Graham Nishikawa, his sister Emily, Ammar and Dupont and Marshall and Zoe Roy and Brittany Webster, to name a few in the distance races.
We’ll be paying special attention to Zina Kocher, Canada’s own Olympic biathlete who will try to earn a spot on the women’s roster!
And of course, we will follow closely Lenny Valjas and Chandra Crawford, both already on the Olympic team, who are working to be razor fit for D-Day.
Let the races begin!
Take position…
